Del Monte launches six new convenience foods at IFPA show - convenience foods
Del Monte merges fresh and shelf-stable lines for the first time since acquiring Del Monte Foods assets.

Del Monte introduced six new convenience-oriented products at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show, merging its fresh and shelf-stable lines for the first time since taking over assets from Del Monte Foods. This initiative marks a deliberate push into ready-to-eat and low-preparation items, focusing on high-margin categories where private-label brands exert strong influence.

The new lineup features Red & Green Chimichurri sauces, versatile for marinades, dips, or toppings, alongside the Açaí Parfait, a single-serve cup containing 6g of protein from açaí, fruit, yogurt, and granola. Additional offerings include Fruit Kabobs with strawberries, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon, and the Watermelon Feta Salad, which pairs sliced watermelon, cucumber, feta, and balsamic dressing. Two snack options complete the collection: a Premium Snack Fruit Trio Tray with Honeyglow and Pinkglow pineapples and cantaloupe, and Medjool Dates sourced from the Jordan Valley, distinguished by their caramel-like sweetness and hand-harvested quality. This is the company’s first venture into sourcing from regions outside its own farm network.

The strategy behind these products centers on capturing a larger share of convenience retail. The Açaí Parfait and Fruit Kabobs directly challenge store-brand fresh-cut alternatives, while the Chimichurri sauces extend the brand’s reach into condiments, a category heavily contested by private-label competitors. These segments typically deliver stronger profit margins than whole produce, though the competitive market remains challenging.

David Stis, Chief Commercial Officer of the Foods Division, added that the integration allows both divisions to engage with retailers through a cohesive approach.
