It was founded by Serenity Hill and Kirsten Larsen, and in addition to being a network of consumers and producers, Open Food Network is built on free and open supply software and released under AGPL license. In response to calls by scholars to deepen theoretical engagement in analysis on Alternative Food Networks , in this article we critically discuss and assess major theoretical approaches deployed in the research of AFNs. We do that by bringing collectively literature on the political ecology of food systems and a number of spatialities, including Doreen Massey’s understanding of house as a heterogeneous multiplicity and Eric Sheppard’s conceptualization of sociospatial positionality.
